01 · Key principles

Key principles.

Natural rubber

Latex-based

Excellent dynamic properties. Tire compound. Limited oil/temperature.

Nitrile (NBR)

Oil-resistant

Standard oil-resistant rubber. Fuel hoses, hydraulic seals.

EPDM

Weather-resistant

Outdoor rubber. Roofing, automotive weatherstripping.

Silicone

High temperature

-60°C to +200°C. Medical, food, electrical.

Viton (FKM)

Chemical & heat

Premium chemical and heat resistance. Automotive fuel.

TPE / TPU

Thermoplastic

Recyclable, fast-processed. Consumer products.

FAQ

Rubber vs TPE?

Rubber thermoset (vulcanized). TPE thermoplastic (recyclable). TPE faster to process. Rubber better at high temperature.

Sealing performance?

NBR for oil. EPDM for water/weather. Viton for high-temp + aggressive fluids. Silicone for extreme temperature range.

Hardness selection?

Shore A scale. 30A very soft, 70A firm, 90A very firm. Choose per application compression and recovery.

Compression set?

Material recovery after compression. Lower number = better. Silicone, Viton best.

Major applications?

O-rings, gaskets, vibration mounts, soft-touch grips, medical tubing.

Bonding to metal/plastic?

Specific adhesives or molded-in. Co-injection (metal insert + rubber overmold) common.
