FAQ

Pharmaceutical questions.

ASME BPE (Bioprocessing Equipment) Standards: US standard for bioprocessing equipment. Requirements: surface finish Ra 0.38 µm maximum on product-contact surfaces (electropolished 316L standard), specific weld quality (orbital welds preferred, no discoloration), drainable design (no horizontal surfaces), documentation requirements. Certified BPE hardware requires specific welding procedures and testing.
Electropolishing vs mechanical polishing: electropolishing removes surface smearing from mechanical finishing, reduces biofilm adhesion, enhances corrosion resistance. Result: easier to clean, lower bioburden risk, longer service life. Standard for bioprocessing and sterile pharmaceutical applications. Cost premium 20-50% vs mechanical polish — but ROI through reduced cleaning validation issues.
USP Class VI: US Pharmacopeia biocompatibility standard for medical devices. Tests: systemic toxicity, intracutaneous injection, implantation response. Common USP VI materials: specific grades of PEEK, Ultem, silicone, PTFE, polycarbonate. We stock USP VI-certified materials for pharmaceutical applications — documentation chain from supplier to customer.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP): FDA 21 CFR Part 210/211 for pharmaceutical manufacturing. We support customer GMP compliance through: material traceability, documented manufacturing processes, calibrated measurement, quality records. For GMP-compliant pharmaceutical manufacturing, customer's GMP program covers our Tier-2 components. We are not GMP-certified ourselves; we support customer GMP.
ASME BPE sanitary welding typically orbital TIG welding — automated rotation with controlled parameters. Produces consistent, smooth internal welds. Documentation: weld logs per ASME BPE, weld sample retention, procedure qualification. Our orbital welding work includes sanitary piping assemblies for pharmaceutical customers with full BPE documentation.
Pharmaceutical equipment programs: 6-12 months typical product development. Manufacturing with BPE compliance: 10-16 weeks including documentation. Electropolishing and surface testing: 3-5 days. Documentation packages can extend delivery — expect 2-3 weeks for complete documentation on complex pharma orders. Plan 3-6 months ahead for complex biopharm equipment.
