FAQ

Scientific Research questions.

Research often requires one-off custom hardware unique to each experiment. Our approach: direct engineer-to-engineer communication (not salesperson), DFM review during design iteration, flexible acceptance of engineering drawings from multiple CAD formats, small-quantity pricing that doesn't penalize low volume. Research lab orders typically 1-5 pieces of each unique design — our processes accommodate this well.
We understand academic research budgets are limited. We accept: purchase orders from universities and research institutions (not just credit cards), flexible quote validity (some grants approve slowly), willingness to adjust designs for cost optimization when possible. For true budget-critical academic work, we offer straightforward pricing with no hidden costs.
Research frequently needs specialty materials: OFE copper C101 (accelerator), Mo TZM (fusion), Invar 36 (precision optics), tungsten (shielding), specialty stainless (nuclear), Kovar (glass sealing). We source specialty materials and machine appropriately — many shops won't handle these. Lead times for specialty materials: 2-8 weeks.
Standard DHL and FedEx international shipping to research institutions worldwide. Customs documentation for research/non-commercial end-use reduces import duties in many countries. For sensitive research equipment, tracked shipment with signed receipt. Large research equipment (vacuum chambers, specialty assemblies): freight shipping with crating and handling.
Research institutions sometimes need detailed manufacturing documentation for publications or student theses. We can provide: fabrication drawings, material certifications, inspection reports, photographs of manufacturing process. Documentation appropriate for scientific publication and institutional records.
Simple research parts: 1-3 weeks. Complex experimental hardware: 4-8 weeks. Large one-off systems: 8-16 weeks. Research lead times flexible — we can accommodate urgent experimental deadlines with rush service, and extended timelines when budget requires standard scheduling. Research programs typically plan manufacturing into 3-6 month experimental timelines.
