01 · Key principles

Key principles.

Air bending

Most flexible

Material doesn't touch die bottom. Different angles same tool.

Bottom bending

Tight tolerance

Material touches die bottom. Repeatable, tighter tolerance.

Three-point

Premium tolerance

Three-point press for tightest angle tolerance.

Bend radius

1× thickness

Internal bend radius equal to material thickness minimum.

Bend tolerance

±0.5°

Standard bend tolerance ±0.5°. Tighter via post-machining.

Multiple bends

Sequence

Sequence multiple bends. Plan for tool clearance.

FAQ

Air vs bottom bending?

Air: flexible, slightly looser tolerance. Bottom: tighter tolerance, dedicated tooling.

Bend radius minimum?

1× material thickness internal. Tighter cracks. Special grades allow tighter.

Bend tolerance?

±0.5° standard. ±0.25° with care. Tighter via post-machining.

Springback?

Material returns slightly after bending. Compensate by bending past nominal.

Multiple bends order?

Plan sequence for clearance. Each bend constrains following.

Production volumes?

Prototype 1-10. Production 100-10K. Equipment per volume.
